Highschool Teachers & Students

Dear Teachers - Specially Art, Music, Drama & Home Ec Teachers!

We wanted to let you and your students know about the Student Contests and Volunteer Opportunities at our new Medieval Fayre.

This is our first Annual event, held June 3rd to 6th, close to Collingwood. It is an SCDSB approved event.

Our Contests include a Heralrdy Banner Design Contest, a Medieval Era Costume Contest and a Medieval Music & Performance Contest. Individual students and Groups may enter. There is a $10 registration fee, mostly to be sure registrants are committed to attend.

This is an exciting opportunity for them to gain a chance to earn accolades for their creative work as well as to learn something of a special time in history in this colourful, extraordinary way.

The Top 10 Winners of the Heraldry Banner Contest at the High School Level will be given the opportunity to work with a skilled professional artist. Linda Laforge is our Creative Director. She’s a local artist who has been a graphic designer for 15 years and has taught computer graphics at Georgian College. Your art students will be in good hands and will get an edge up in the creative field by working with her to paint stage sets, medieval style games, signs and so forth. In addition, professional artists judging entrants submissions will give them insight on how they can improve their work and what impressed them most.

Students who don’t have a creative flare need not be left out. We do need Volunteers to assist us for various unpaid jobs, like assisting kids with our free games, helping artisans when they need a break from manning their booth, all along in costume and hopefully as a medieval character. Drama students looking to add something to their repertoire and to have a fantastic learning experience are most certainly invited to attend as a strolling character actor.

It won’t be ALL work and no play, of course. Students will be there to enjoy the show! Just browse through tis site to discover a bit about our jousting knights, viking martial arts experts, birds of prey show, magic show and more. We offer two education days geared to grade four curriculum as well. (All four days are open to the public.)

We understand that there are requirements to fulfill in order for a student to be permitted to attend our event for a Contest or as a Volunteer who can gain credits. There are several Community Involvement Activities our Fayre is eligible for. We are pleased to provide a safe, educational, insured and exciting way to work with students in this way.

Let’s talk about how we can work together. I look forward to hearing back soon! This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it if you have any questions and let's get started!
